Back up in Mass

Filed under: mobius band news — peter @ 12:49 pm

The week before last, we went up to Noam’s house in Hatfield to do some recording. More details about what’s going to be released will be here soon, but basically the idea was to take just a few days in a room with our instruments and make some music. Normally our process is very slow and considered, but this time we wanted to tone down the editing and turn up the spontaneity.

New mp3s: Daytrotter Session

Filed under: mobius band news — peter @ 11:46 am

On our last tour we were introduced to the wonderful Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa. One brisk morning in late October we woke up in our customary Super 8 and headed across the border into Rock Island, a town with a name awesome enough to host Daytrotter. Here’s a pic Ben took, a little Rock Island flavor for y’all:

Rock Island

Daytrotter records 2 or 3 bands every day, writes up the band, and posts the songs for free. It’s pretty amazing.

Check out our session and download the 4 free mp3s.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing that fateful day. (more…)

Noam’s Homemade Patchbay Drum Machine

Filed under: mobius band news — peter @ 3:30 pm

Here’s a video our new BFFs and tour mates Middle Distance Runner posted of Noam fiddling with one of his frankenstein style modified electric gadgets.

It’s a drum machine that he modified with a patch bay. I guess the nails, when connected together via the metal band, short out the sounds in cool ways. Maybe I can get him to expain it better.

Baltimore is now Wilmington

Filed under: tour — peter @ 1:26 pm

Due to unforeseen circumstances – at the fault of the venue, we are having to cancel the Baltimore show.  We’re playing that night, the 13th, at Mojo 13, in Wilmington, DE.  Also there’s the DC show at Rock n Roll Hotel on the 14th.

Welcome to Florida, The Matrix for Sharks

Filed under: tour — peter @ 6:05 pm

Pickled SharksFirst stop in Florida today, we walked into a quickie mart slash gift shop.  All the usual trinkets were present, postcards, porcelain piggies, glass swans staring down from the knick-knack shelf, some delicious looking marmelade (noam loves marmelade).  Then in front of the window we noticed this.  Why, you ask, are there 500 (perhaps fetal?) sharks, preserved in mysterious blue fluid, floating in individual jars, on display next to the oranges and alligator teeth?  Further investigation probably would have revealed that the jars all sat on some sort of circuit whereby the life force of these fish-killers-nipped-in-the-bud is used to power some sort of satanic rube goldberg machine in the basement that converts the sad dreams of these captive creatures into a little known, but powerful, huffable upper, like jenkem.  We may never know.
