Quarterback 808

Filed under: circuit bending — noam @ 11:03 pm

A while ago I sold a Rx Punk on ebay. When I went to ship it, I noticed the name was Adam Horovitz, which rung a bell as he is in the Beastie Boys.

I asked him if he was adrock… He said “yes, can you turn this football game into a drum machine?”

I wasn’t going to say no. so i said yes.  I had the idea to take the guts from one of those cool circle shaped lo-fi drum toys (i happened to have one half torn apart in the attic).

Both have 5 buttons, so that was a nice start.  Unfortunately the old buttons on the football game were unreliable and hard to mesh with the drum toy circuit. I had to build a small bank of buttons and then fit them behind the original ones.  All in all it was a lot of shaping the elements to fit together inside the football game, rather than comlicated circuit work.

Added a 1/8″ line out, and an extreme pitch knob that tends to glitch at either end of the spectrum. The body contact adds a sizzly sound…delicious.  The run switch powers the unit on.

EDITORS - help colleagues MOBIUS BAND

New times call for new models. Traditional forms of existence, for musicians and labels suffer serious injuries and has nothing substantially new constructive not visible. In the sense that to push the album without a label for a group from around the world much easier than doing so with the material a little-known group. Previously label is betting on new names, to invest money, provide a knowledge infrastructure, and hoped to return the money and time with a small profit. Now everything is free to swing from the network and not all labels have yet to engage in strength and organization of the concerts - because the sector seems to have brought some money.

Label die. Specialist music shops - unique library of contemporary music and cultural centers - the same die.

What remains? There remain some of the more successful group which gets indifferent to new music and nelenyaschiesya to do something, such as help. In particular, EDITORS.

In his blog on MySpace, they reported that the make friends with her heating up in New York called MOBIUS BAND during the tour of Britain in the 2008m.

One of the musicians EDITORS said: “When they released the album HEAVEN we just frustrated roof. Every week, we appeared a new favorite song from this album, and we invitedMOBIUS BAND go with us on tour in Europe. They have made a huge impression on our audience and sell more discs during this tour than ever before. So it seemed logical to us to help them proolzhit and more, including the release of their disc in Britain. “

Mobius Band helm reverse British invasion

Filed under: mobius band news — noam @ 3:45 pm

Happy to say, our album “Heaven” is officially released in the UK today. After Gordon Brown apologized for spending £150,000 in tax payer funds on an elaborate gold plated toilet for his home “office”, he urged all patriotic British citizens to run out to the local record store and buy “Heaven”

“It’s a damn good record,” said Brown. “If you go support this fantastic band of Yanks, it’ll surely help the economic meltdown, as well as restore the good reputation of our country before all the world.”

Special thanks to EDITORS and all their good folks for helping us make this a reality. Ahh….where would we be without good old fashioned nepotism!?!? Seriously, those guys are the best.

Filed under: attic music, circuit bending — noam @ 11:45 pm

On the table:

Yamaha rx-17 drum machine with 27 point copper nail patch bay (with flashing lights!)

Vtech Little Talking Scholar bring played through…. Bent “White Owl” Ibanez tube screamer

Korg Kaossilator

bent Zenith transistor radio

The radio gets all kinds off cool interference from the other boxes.
Tuning it, moving it, or touching the body contacts affects the sound.

Some strange noises from a cool old radio.  Just add a couple of body contacts and away we go…
